Anointed For ThisExodus 31:3

The Bread Is the Mission

This message is for I knead the dough for the church outreach every Saturday because I have hands, and I feel like a baker waiting for a pulpit, believing the bread is just the work I do while I wait for the real ministry God promised me.

The kitchen clock reads four in the morning. Flour dust hangs in the air like snow, catching the pale light from the single overhead bulb. Sarah stands at the table, her apron stiff with dried dough, her hands deep in a large mass of bread for the shelter outreach. She pauses, pulling her fingers back, looking at the red marks on her knuckles. She feels a heavy silence in her chest, a hollow space that the physical labor cannot fill. She believes this work is a placeholder, a necessary chore she performs while waiting for the real call. She imagines a pulpit, a stage, a voice that shakes walls. She sees only her own trembling hands, stained with yeast and water. She wonders if God has misplaced her, leaving her to knead while others preach. The dough is cold and resistant under her palms. She pushes it down, feeling the tension in the gluten, the slow yield. The room is quiet except for the hum of the refrigerator. She looks at the window, watching the gray dawn creep across the sky. She is waiting for a sound that will confirm her worth, a voice that will lift her from this table. But the silence holds her. The dough remains in her hands. The work continues. She is not sure if she is a baker or a minister, but she knows she is tired of the distance between the two. She keeps kneading, the rhythm slow and heavy, as if the bread itself is asking for an answer that has not yet arrived.

The Ordinary Is the Assignment Itself

The list of reasons you are the wrong person is ready before anyone asks for it. You have measured your hands against the task and found them small. You have listened for a thunderclap and heard only the hum of the refrigerator. The ache is not that you are unloved, but that the work feels too small to hold the promise. It feels like a corridor you must walk through, a waiting room where you sit until the door opens. But the door is not coming. The room you are in is the destination, as the Holy Spirit whispers to the restless heart what God has written plainly in Scripture: the present moment is the arrival.

God does not see as man sees, for man looks on the outward appearance but the Lord looks on the heart. This is not a platitude to soften the blow. It is a surgical cut into the lie that your identity is determined by your title, a truth found in the written word and confirmed by the Holy Spirit. The anointing is not a rank to be achieved later. It is the supply already present in the specific work assigned. You were not placed in that kitchen to wait. You were placed there to be. The oil is not for a future stage. It is for the hands you have now.

The idea that the tangible task is a placeholder for a future spiritual role is a deception. It creates a split in your life, a division between the holy and the ordinary. It tells you that your value is suspended until you reach a higher platform. But the anointing is not a ladder. It is a covering. It settles over the bread, the bricks, the letters, and the laundry. It makes the ordinary sacred. It does not wait for the extraordinary. It meets you in the dough. It meets you in the dirt. It meets you in the quiet, unglamorous labor that no one claps for.

His word says that God has anointed us, and the same Spirit has sealed us. This is not a future hope. It is a present fact. The seal is already on the package. The guarantee is already in your hand. You do not need to earn the anointing by performing it correctly. You do not need to prove your worth by the size of the crowd. The anointing abides in you. It does not leave when the applause stops. It does not fade when the results are modest. It remains. It is the constant under the changing circumstances. It is the oil that keeps the lamp burning even when the wick is short.

Think about the bread you are making. It is not a symbol of your ministry. It is your ministry. When you knead the dough, you are exercising the strength God gave you. When you measure the flour, you are using the precision He placed in your mind. When you shape the loaf, you are exercising the care He placed in your heart. This is not preparation for the real work. This is the real work. The bread is the mission. The mission is the bread. There is no other. The distinction between the two is a lie that keeps you waiting for a door that is already open, a lie the Holy Spirit dismantles by showing what God has written about the sufficiency of the present task.

Zechariah heard the word that it is not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit. This applies to the physical labor as much as the spiritual. The strength to knead for hours is not just your muscle. It is His strength working through you. The wisdom to know when the dough is ready is not just your experience. It is His wisdom guiding your hands. You are not alone in the kitchen. You are not alone at the desk. You are not alone in the field. The Spirit is with you in the mundane. He is present in the repetitive. He is active in the unglamorous. He is working in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

The anointing is not a proof of favor toward one person over another. It is not a mark of superiority. It is a mark of assignment. It sets you apart for a specific task. It supplies you for a specific need. It does not make you better than the person who cleans the floors. It does not make you more loved than the person who prays in silence. It simply says that this work is yours, and I have equipped you for it. The anointing is not a rank. It is a resource. It is the oil that makes the work possible. It is the grace that makes the strength sufficient.

You have been carrying this work on your own skill for so long that you have forgotten what the difference feels like. You have tried to do it alone, relying on your competence, your knowledge, your endurance. And you are tired. The weight is heavy because you are lifting it alone. But you are not alone. The anointing is not something you acquire. It is something you receive. It is not something you chase. It is something that meets you. It is not a destination. It is a companion. It walks with you into the kitchen. It sits with you at the desk. It stands with you in the field. It is the supply that makes the work light, a supply Scripture puts it plainly as the work of the Holy Spirit rather than human effort.

The ordinary is the assignment itself. There is no hidden agenda. There is no secret plan that will reveal itself later. There is only the work in front of you. And that work is holy. It is sacred. It is the place where God meets you. It is the place where His power is made perfect in your weakness. It is the place where His grace is sufficient. Do not look for the anointing in a future room. It is in the room you are in. It is in the work you are doing. It is in the bread you are making. It is in the words you are writing. It is in the lives you are touching. It is here. It is now. It is real, sealed by the same Spirit who guarantees the promise written in the word.

His word says that whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men. This is not a suggestion. It is a command. It is a declaration of identity. The paycheck is not the motive. Applause is not the goal. A title is not the aim. The work belongs to the Lord. And the Lord is pleased with it. He sees it. He honors it. He rewards it. Not with fame, but with peace. Not with power, but with purpose. Not with position, but with presence. The anointing is the presence of God in the work. It is the oil that makes the work holy. It is the grace that makes the work sweet.

The anointing is not a rank. It is not a title. It is not a stage. It is the supply for the assignment. It is the oil for the work. It is the grace for the task. It is the strength for the labor. It is the wisdom for the decision. It is the courage for the step. It is the peace for the night. It is the joy for the morning. It is the love for the neighbor. It is the faith for the future. It is the hope for the end. It is the life that God gives you to live. It is the breath that God puts in your lungs. It is the heart that God places in your chest. It is the soul that God saves for His own.

Do not wait for the pulpit. Do not wait for the stage. Do not wait for the call. The call is in the work. The work is the call. The bread is the mission. The mission is the bread. The anointing is in the dough. The anointing is in the flour. The anointing is in the water. The anointing is in the yeast. The anointing is in your hands. The anointing is in your heart. The anointing is in your life. The anointing is in your death. The anointing is in your resurrection. The anointing is in your glory. The anointing is in your eternity. The anointing is in your God.

The breakthrough

Stop waiting for the door to open. The door is open. You are in the room. The anointing is on your hands. The anointing is in your heart. The anointing is in your work. The bread is the mission. The mission is the bread. You are not a baker waiting for a pulpit. You are a priest baking bread. You are a king kneading dough. You are a prophet shaping loaves. The anointing is not for a future stage. It is for the hands you have now. It is for the work you are doing now. It is for the life you are living now. It is here. It is now. It is real. The Holy Spirit has already sealed this work in you, and what God has written is that He anointed you for this very hour. The anointing is the supply for the assignment.

Declare this over yourself

  1. The bread, I am in the room and the door is open. You are not a baker waiting for a pulpit. The assignment is the one in front of me and the supply is already on it.
  2. Waiting, get out of this kitchen. The written word says the anointing abides in you, and the Holy Spirit confirms that the ordinary is the assignment itself. I do not look for a future stage because the present moment is the arrival in the name of Jesus.
  3. Lord, the work in front of me is Yours and I am carrying it on what You supply. I knead the dough with the strength You have placed in my hands. The bread is the mission, and I am sent into tomorrow.
